Norms & Guidelines Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion
for Saint Philip of Jesus Parish
An extraordinary minister of Holy Communion in the Catholic Church is, under the Code of Canon Law, "an acolyte, or another of Christ's faithful deputed", in certain circumstances, to distribute Holy Communion.
These lay ministers assist the Ordinary ministers of the Eucharist (priests and deacons) with the distribution of the Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist to the faithful at Mass, as well as those in the hospital or the homebound.
The requirements for serving as an EMHC are:
Archdiocesan Safe Environment Program
Protecting the Youth and Vulnerable
All volunteers over 18 years of age are required to take the online Safe Environment training as mandated by the Archdiocese. The training must be completed before an individual can volunteer for service.
